I am diverging from my blog, Freebie Trading Tackling to tackle a more important tackle this week. School Anxiety!! Last week my son started school and had quite a bit of School Anxiety about starting up and riding the bus. I gave some suggestions on how to tackle School Anxiety in that post.
This week, my daughter and nephew start their preschool, actually today! So I am hoping it all goes smoothly. I have been preparing my daughter and talking to her about it a little bit each day. She is excited and nervous. I took pictures of her teachers and classroom when I went to the Parent meeting recently. She has been looking at them and seems to take comfort in seeing what it will look like. We have been discussing the routine at drop off and what she will do first, then second….etc. Discussing the routines and letting kids know what to expect can be very reasurring for them. She decided she wants to bring her teddy bear for comfort and I said she could put it in her back pack. I think having that transition object (as suggested by one of my readers last week!) will be helpful for her. I am hoping the teachers will let her carry it for the first day if she needs to get it. We will see!
This is my first time in 5 years I will have no children with me for a set period of time! Wow! I am excited! It’s always great to have a little me time!
How has your start to school been with your children?
