This is a video about the value of money and kids. It discusses Allowance and chores. It is important to teach our kids about the value of money and help them understand that they can’t just “get” things.
How do you work allowance with your kids? Do you give them a weekly allowance? Are there chores linked to the allowance?

We don’t tie allowance to chores. We instead try to teach chores as the price of admission to the game of life… everybody’s gotta do ‘em.
That doesn’t mean I haven’t offered extra jobs on occasion with compensation, but it’s generally rare.
Allowance has been tied to proper behavior in our house, with removal of all or a portion of allowance part of our tool bag of possible consequences.

…i meant to write: one great way to teach kids about money is through making a craft piggy bank.
piggy banks, like no other tool, teaches kids both the value of and a method for saving money for later.
It’s physical and shows that saving up can be fun & beneficial.
That is a great video. Nice post.

You’ve got a point. Not all must need a reward to do things but giving them how to value money is one thing kids must know.
Great insights you brought to moms like me.
There are some everyday chores my boys do that don’t elicit an allowance, such as making their bed, cleaning up their toys…There are some chores that do receive an allowance – the chores that aren’t required everyday such as wheeling the garbage to the curb. I think it is important to imprint on children that there is value in working and money doesn’t come easy.
