Here is another video I found on handling tantrums. The Doctor in this video gives some techniques on how to handle to tantrums to help minimize them. She discusses how developmentally children are prone to tantrums in their preschool years, since they working on pushing the boundaries.
Here are some common techniques:
- Ignore the negative behavior when it’s possible
- Praise positive behavior
- Give kids warnings before changing activities, For example, “In five minutes we are putting away our toys, In one minute we are putting away our toys, Ok- Now it’s time to put away our toys.”
- Give them 2 choices- example “you can give back that toy yourself, or I can help you do it” “I am going to count to 3 and if you can’t do it yourself, then I will”

In my 52 years of experience, I’ve learned that the very best way to handle a tantrum and prevent future tantrums, is to ignore it. I know it’s very hard to do, especially if you’re in public, but after your toddler learns that he/she will not get any reaction (good or bad) from you, he’ll stop doing it. Try to remain calm and just ignore it.
I was just at Walmart a few hours ago and this mother was SCREAMING at her child. It was making a huge scene. And of course it didn’t calm the child down. Wish I could have her sent this video!

Looking into my past experience i saw that when you use polite and loving words to the child the child will listen to you and do what you want to to them.
