Just in case your “bag o tricks” seems empty when it comes time to entertain your toddler on a sunny summer day, consider some of the following:

Use the kiddie pool as a place to entertain them and offer some water fun (supervised, of course).  Just fill it part way with water then give them containers of all kinds to fill and splash with.  Don’t forget to shield them from the sun by using an umbrella during the high sun part of the day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m as well as using high SPF sunscreen.

Make fruit or yogurt popsicles.  Use fruit juice concentrate, which you dilute with only half the water so it’s a bit sweeter.  Pour the diluted juice or yogurt into paper cups and freeze partway.  Add a spoon or stick and then freeze the rest of the way.

Sometimes your youngster just wants to do what you are doing, so invent ways to include them in whatever you’re doing.  If you’re working in the yard, let them help dig holes for flowers or plants or even push a bubble mower so they feel helpful in some way, shape or form. Give them a little trowel and a bucket and take them weeding with you.  You can also give them their own Watering Can and let them help you water the plants.  My daughter loves to do this!

Kids love to bring you flowers, so why not give them their own garden to tend?  Surprise them with some flower and veggie plants and help them plant a garden of their own.  If you don’t have a bit of ground, then get a container to put on your deck or porch. It just isn’t too hard to find fun ways to entertain your toddler in the summertime – all you have to do is get outside for awhile!

Earth Day Activity – Watering Can

Watering Can

Today is the second day of our Earth Day Activities series.  My kids love to help me water the Garden so we are always using watering cans.  There little ones are always running out of water to quickly.  This Watering Can will keep them watering for at least a few minutes before needing more water!  I was inspired to do this for Earth Day after seeing it at Kaboose .
