How to Create a Paper Bag Kite

The summer provides a great time to spend time with your kids. I found a guide on the Factory Direct Craft blog that explains how to create a paper bag kite and this project looks like a lot of fun. I am going to make this with my kids because it looks like a lot of fun. I have always enjoyed crafting and my kids seem to enjoy it as well. There are many great craft ideas that are perfect for kids of any age.

The necessary craft supplies for this project are a Paper bag, Clear tape, Scissors, Sock yarn or kite string, and a Yarn needle.

1. Trim the top of the bag until is it even and then remove the seam from the bottom of the kite. There should be a flat paper tube remaining.

2. It is now time to decorate the bag. Your kids will love this part.

3. Cut the center of the tube close to the seam

4. On a flap in the center of the kite, add 3 layers of tape. These should be on top of each other.

5. Next, you will need 2 feet of yarn. With the yarn needle, thread the yarn you just cut through the tape about 1/3 inch from the edge and make a knot.

6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the other remaining flap.

7. Tie a not at the center of the yarn and you should then attach a piece of string. This will be used to fly the kite.

8. Create the tails by taping 10-14 inch sections of string to the flaps along the bottom.

9. You are ready to fly your kite after adding some extra string to the loop.

Toddler Crafts tackles the craft supplies!

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

I have put it off for a while, but it was time! I needed to tackle my Craft Supplies area! I use the craft supplies a lot!! So I took everything out and sorted it all. Wish I had taken a before picture! It was quite unruly and I could barely shut the cabinet door anymore!

Here is the finished product….

I find it really helpful to have tupperware containers to seperate the craft supplies.  This makes it so much easier when we are working on a project.  I just take out the container and I have everything together.

How do you keep your craft supplies organized?

Crayon Container Craft

Crayon Container

Organizing all of your craft supplies can be a challenge.  One great way is to have small boxes to put the various supplies in.  This is a fun way to have your child help make the containers to put their supplies in.  Because they will have made it, it will be easier for them to remember what goes where and be more motivated to use it!

The Mitten – An easy Toddler Craft Activity

the mitten

I always love to create a craft and tie it in to a book!  My daughter actually brought this craft home from school one day and inspired me to pull out our copy of The Mitten by Jan Brett and read it with her.  The Mitten is a great story (You may have seen some of Jan Brett’s other stories like The Hat which is also great).   The story is about a little boy Nikki who convinces his Baba (grandmother) to make him white mittens.  She is hesitant because she is worried he will lose his mitten in the snow.  His first day out with it sure enough he loses it.  The story details the adventures of the mitten and how it ends up back with him.

I thought I would share this craft which is so simple and ties in so nicely with the story.

Supplies

  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Paint

Steps

  1. Cut out Mitten Shape
  2. Paint (whatever color your child likes)
  3. Add fun things like glitter, foam pieces etc. (optional)

Enjoy!!

Celebrate the end of Winter!! Snow Flake Craft!

Glitter snowflake

One day my mother in law came over to watch my kids for a few hours and she decided to do a craft with them.  She always does cool things with them, but I had to share this one because I really thought it was so great!!

Supplies

  • 3 Popsicle Sticks
  • Glitter
  • White Spray paint
  • Cheap puzzle-20-50 piece small one
  • Pipe Cleaner
  • Glue

Steps

  1. Glue popsicle sticks together one on top of the other – perpindicular so you end up with 6 “arms” (glue gun works well with this)
  2. Wrap a pipecleaner around one of them so that you can hang it, like an ornament
  3. Spray puzzle pieces white with spray paint
  4. Sprinkle glitter on wet puzzle pieces-let dry
  5. Glue puzzle pieces on popsicle sticks (glue gun is helpful with this)

You now have a beautiful Snow Flake!! Enjoy!!

If you try this craft, let me know how you like it!!
