Preschool Educational Activities
To teach children their letters it is important to introduce the letters in a variety of ways. One fun way is to make a craft that starts with the “letter of the day”. Then incorporate as many items that start with that letter. This letter activity craft is a great example of that. You could even read a book before like the “itsy bitsy spider” and point out the S’s as you read. In this activity we concentrate on the letter S. We called this spider, Salty the Spider. We made his S out of salt (the s again ) and wrote the word spider on him for another opportunity to reinforce the letter and it’s sound.
Supplies:
- Construction paper
- Pencil or Pen
- Scissors
- Black Marker
- Glue
- Salt
Steps:
- Draw outline of Spider
- Help children cut it out with Scissors (see the letter S again? point out the letter it starts with.)
- Draw eyes on spider
- Draw the S with Glue
- Sprinkle Salt (there’s that S again!) on the glue, shake off excess
- Write Spider on the bottom
Sing the Itsy Bitsy Spider!

Cute Idea once again.
It looks like you could even have kids trace their four fingers on the sides of an oval or circle…and then cut it out. It wouldn’t be such a good shape or standardized, but it might be one option.
Thanks Brandy- Glad you liked it!
Anjie, Nice suggestion!
