What can a parent do when their little cherub has just gotten into the flour and “made pancakes” – without you? It’s time to whip out the games for preschoolers! When the kids get into things, they’re just trying to discover their world: how does this work, what happens if I do this, where does this door take me?
To prevent the “disaster” from happening in the first place, you can help them create that exploratory “research” so that it happens in a controlled environment. Create a game – since all a preschool game really is – is a planned learning/playing experience.
From that point of view, why can’t making pancakes be a game for your toddler? Only with you directing things, it won’t get as messy. And so what if it gets messy – you can make a game of cleaning up!
We parents can make up games just as easily as that. You can make a game of counting oranges into a bag at the store. You can count the big white trucks on the road to Uncle John’s house.
Why not set up a moderately messy game making an indoor sandbox, only fill this one with rice or lentils or whatever you have on hand. Just don’t be shocked when you put on your slippers and it’s filled with rice!
In the end, coming up with games for preschoolers is just as simple as getting down on the floor and seeing things from their young eyes. It’s all new to them. Why not help them to discover it – together?
