This is a fun Activity for Toddlers. It is fun for them to make, and play with! They can even decorate it if they would like to. What’s even better is it is made from recycled material.
Supplies:
- Empty Butter or cream cheese tub
- Dry Macaroni
- Tape
- Paper (optional)
Steps:
- Clean out tub well
- Have your child take dry macaroni and put it in the tub
- Tape it shut (you want it tight, so it doesn’t break open)
- It’s ready to go!! You can now play your music or…
- You can fold paper over it and tape it well, then let your child decorate it with crayons or markers.
Have fun!!

Even easier, not needing the taping skills – take an empty plastic pop bottle or water bottle, put macaroni (or rice or beans – each one makes different sounds), put a little super glue on the bottle rings and screw the lid on. The super glue will keep your curious toddler from unscrewing the lid and making a mess.
A plastic funnel works great to get the macaroni in with little mess and allows the little one to do the job. Or you can make a paper funnel by rolling a piece of paper into a cone.
Child can paint the bottle or you make a new paper wrapper and let them color on the new wrapper with crayons or markers.
Make some from the butter tubs and some from bottles, see how they sound different.
I tried this out with my niece fairly recently. It’s a good idea… until she played with it for hours and hours and hours. It kept her happy and occupied I guess, but it sure was noisy!
