Children and even adults love chocolates and cereals. Now they can enjoy both through this simple and quick to make recipe. They will not only love the taste, but they will certainly have fun in making their own chocolate goodies.

Allow them to help you so they will learn how to prepare their food on their own, so that in later years they will develop a sense of independence and responsibility. Always teach your children to wash their hands thoroughly first before handling any food to prevent contamination. As they are children, you can’t avoid them making a mess deliberately to have fun, so be ready with your patience and loving care as you all enjoy this activity.

What you will need:

  • Chocolate bar (one pound)
  • Two cups crunchy cereals
  • Mixing bowl
  • Mixing spoon
  • Cupcake papers

How to do it:

  1. Break the one-pound chocolate bar into small pieces in a mixing bowl.
  2. Melt the chocolate using the mixing spoon. You can ask your child to help you do this.
  3. Pour the two cups of cereal into the melted chocolate. Mix them well, until the cereals are evenly coated with chocolate.
  4. Spoon your mixture into the cupcake papers.
  5. Place them in the refrigerator until they get hard. Do not freeze.
  6. Serve them on a tray. Enjoy your crunchy chocolate cereals.

One activity that your kids will surely love doing with you is cooking. You don’t need to cook elaborate food to make it fun and exciting. Making cookies is simple and easy, but will be enjoyable to the kids. This will give you time to bond with your kids, and at the same time teach them simple lessons on responsibility and helpfulness. You can do this on special occasions or celebrations like Halloween.

What you will need:

  • 1 ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • Cookie cutters

How to do it:

  1. Mix powdered sugar, butter or margarine, egg and vanilla and almond extracts.
  2. Mix in flour, baking soda and tartar. Mix well.
  3. Cover your mixture and refrigerate for two hours. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Make sure that your kids do not touch the hot surface to avoid burning.
  4. Divide your dough into halves. Roll out on a lightly floured board.
  5. Using cookie cutters, cut the dough into different Halloween characters or symbols (e.g., pumpkin, ghost, hands, etc.)
  6. Place them on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes.
  8. Give “Halloween life” to your cookies by letting your kids adorn them with colorful sweet icing tinted with your favorite Halloween colors of black, yellow, orange, red, and other dramatic colors that your kids may surely enjoy mixing and messing.

Feeding a Picky Eater!

Having a picky eater can be exhausting!  Here is a video from one mom and how she handles her 3 year old picky eater.   Here on Toddler Craft I can relate to this, as I have one very picky eater myself.  Here are a few posts that give some more ideas on helping to get your picky eater to eat healthy.

One healthy favorite I have had success in getting my picky eater to eat, is apples and cinnamon.  It is one of the only times he eats fruit, but he eats it all up with a little bit of cinnamon spice sprinkled on it!
What are your tips for getting picky eaters to eat?

It’s the Mclinky Blog hop again!  This weeks theme is to share a recipe!  The above picture is not of the recipe I am sharing, but I thought it was so cute, I had to share it.   The recipe I am going to share is for Honey Candy-It is quite delicious, but has peanut butter in it.  So stay away if you have peanut allergies in the family.

Honey Candy

1 Cup Crunchy Peanutbutter

1 Cup Honey

1 Cup Powdered Milk

2 Cups Crispy Rice Cereal

Chocolate chips

Mix Peanug Butter and Honey in a blender.  Add in powdered milk.  Blend with your hands.  Add Cereal and continue to blend with your hands.  Roll into walnut-size balls.  Press 3-4 choclate chips into each ball and then refrigerate.  Once cold, they are ready to eat!  Enjoy!!

This recipe was passed to me from my mom,  I do not know where it originally came from.
