Halloween is one of the most anticipated occasions among little children. The idea of knocking on the neighbor’s door for some “Trick or Treat” sounds very exciting for little kids. And this requires them to wear their Halloween costumes. It adds more fun and color to the celebration. Halloween costumes, however, need not be very expensive. Parents can make these with their kids at home. A very good example is a Halloween Pumpkin Mask which is easy and simple.
You can engage your children in making this to help them develop their creativity and ingenuity. Always remember, assist your kid in using sharp and pointed materials to prevent them from cutting themselves.
Materials:
Large white paper plate
Black construction paper
Orange paint
Small paint brush
Glue
Pair of scissors
Rubber band
Pencil
How to do it:
Paint the large white paper plate with orange on one side until it is completely covered. Set aside to dry.
Once completely dry, draw two small triangles for the eyes. Cut them out to provide holes for the eyes.
On a black construction paper, draw a small triangle for nose, and a shape of a mouth. Cut them out and glue them to complete the face of the mask.
Punch a small hole on each side of the mask, just big enough for the rubber band to pass through. Tie the rubber band on each hole at the sides of the mask, and pull backward to place on each of your ear. Now you have a Halloween pumpkin mask.
Doing crafts with your toddler can be fun and exciting. Moreover, it can be a learning experience for them, a means of developing their creativity and ingenuity. You can teach your kids early how to recycle and convert used stuffs to something useful and beautiful.
One easy craft for your toddler is making a decorative pen/pencil holder using recyclable materials. They can use this to keep all their pens/pencils together in one place.
Materials:
Small size empty potato chips tub or canister (Pringles or Lays)
Old colored magazines
Pair of scissors
Glue
Small paint brush
Packing tape
Steps:
Do not throw the empty canister of your favorite potato chips, preferably the small size. If the only available size is the big one, cut it into the desired length. Make sure to assist your kid in cutting the canister to prevent them from hurting themselves. Kids must always be supervised and assisted when using sharp or bladed objects. After you have cut, place a packing tape around the rough edges of the canister to make it safe. Set aside your canister.
Together with your kid, choose colored pages from the old magazines you have taken out. Then cut these into small pieces, in different shapes and sizes. The more colors you have, the better. You have to make sure that you have more than enough of these small pieces of paper to cover the whole canister.
Take out the canister and with the paint brush, paint the whole body of the canister with glue. Spread the glue thinly around the canister.
Paste the small pieces of paper around the body of the canister. Arrange them into a mosaic that will cover the whole body of the canister.
Dry the canister before finally using it.
Ask your kid to place inside the canister all his pens/pencils. Then display this either on your kid’s study table or elsewhere in your bedroom.
This is a fun craft that my daughter created during her week at art camp and I just had to share it here on Toddler Craft! It’s another fun crafts for toddlers on up! What’s really great is after they create their master piece, they can wear it!
Supplies:
Plain flip flops – you can pick these up at the dollar store
Paint
Ribbon
Scissors
Paint brushes
Steps:
Pick the colors you want to create with and let your child get creative!
Once the paint is dry you might want to cover it with a clear acrylic spray ( children should not do this) to prevent the paint from chipping.
